Design push for the pedestrian plaza project in Sec V | Calcutta News

Calcutta: The Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA) initiated the process to hire an agency for the construction of the pedestrian plaza on 25 Street from the RDB Mall to the Infinity Benchmark building in Sector V in six phases, after the submission of the design by consultant.
Officials said the proposed design was inspired by the Washington Monument obelisk. The square will have several steel and glass obelisks creating a surreal, high-tech vibe that will appeal to the young tech crowd in Sector V.
A dazzling lighting system has been planned to create a vibrant atmosphere with supporting audio and visual effects. The asphalt road surface, pavement and existing street lights on the 50 meter stretch will be removed and the stretch will be redeveloped with sculptures, artwork, graffiti, signage and light towers without motor vehicles allowed to enter.
Officials said there would be arrangements to work from the plaza’s seats with solar-powered charging stations and wi-fi zones. An interactive light sculpture has also been planned as well as automatic barriers with retractable booms that will be placed to keep traffic away and only allow service vehicles such as firefighters.
NDITA officials said the stretch that has been identified to turn into a pedestrian plaza is one of the busiest areas in Sector V, lined with multiplex cinemas, restaurants, bars, cafes and sweets. . “The plan is to transform the 50-meter stretch into a complete pedestrian zone where vehicles will not be allowed to enter. The makeover was planned in six phases, ”said an NDITA official.
