Former West Ham United football club Old Boleyn Ground came to life in September at Upton Gardens in Newham, London, depicted in a life-size 3D anamorphic street painting by world-renowned artist Joe Hill from ‘3D Joe and Max’.

The pavement painting, measuring five by three meters, was unveiled by students at Upton Elementary School in St Edward’s, who also got an exclusive lesson from Joe on how to draw the perfect illusion of the hole in the ground.

Artist Joe took inspiration from the West Ham United anthem “I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles” when developing the concept, which encouraged people to take pictures of themselves either balancing on top or trapped. inside, a giant bubble floating out of a crack in the earth that looks towards a flashback of the old stadium in its heyday.

Joe, who has traveled the world from New York to Shanghai to create his unique 3D street art, said, “I love to create works of art that are completely interactive and that particularly fire the imaginations of people who normally shouldn’t. take a second look.

“The photo allows people to jump on it, to play with it, to find different poses; it is a unique way to celebrate the incredible sporting heritage of the region.

58 students attended the unveiling in grade 6 and watched Joe complete his masterpiece in situ. Paul Underwood, Principal of St Edward’s Catholic Elementary School, said: “The current art subject for students is ‘street art’, so the timing couldn’t be better.

“After a year of learning at home, it’s fantastic to give the children the opportunity to see things like this happen in real life, to appreciate the scale of the project and to really involve them. and inspire them.

“They really enjoyed the morning and I’m sure they’ll be sharing a few bubble selfies as we speak. We would like to thank Barratt London for allowing us to be a part of this celebration.
