Historic church being redeveloped into a Gospel Music Hall of Fame


ST. LOUIS, Mo – Plans are underway to redevelop the property housing the former Second Baptist Church at 500 N. Kingshighway Blvd. in Saint-Louis.

Monica Butler, film and television producer and childhood participant at Second Baptist Church, plans to reallocate the property and develop the 40,000 square foot Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the Cultural Arts, Entertainment and Gospel Research Center .

Lawrence Group has committed to providing the design and construction of the $ 22 million restoration project. CEO of Lawrence Group and co-founder of New + Found, Steve Smith will provide development services for the redevelopment.

The plans include a sound stage and movie theater, a Hall of Fame museum, an education center, a cafe, a courtyard and an event space.

The former Second Baptist Church is a member of the historic Holy Corners, a group of religious and public assembly buildings residing near the intersections of Washington Boulevard and Kingshighway. The building is an official landmark for the city of St. Louis and has a place on the National Register of Historic Places.
