The Barrow Musical Weekend is back

An ‘eclectic’ range of bands will perform at several venues in Barrow this week.

Barrow Music Weekend will build on last year’s pilot event which happened shortly after Covid restrictions were lifted.

Barrow Music is the body organizing the event, which is a collaboration between The Forum, Barrow Borough Council, South Lakes Rock School and various local organizations such as Barrow Underground Music Society, BarrowFull and Barrow Business Improvement District.

The project secured £28,000 from the Arts Council following a successful bid.

Joanne Marwood, Forum Events Manager and one of the main organizers of Barrow Music Weekend, said: “We are fortunate to have such a vibrant music scene in Barrow, with several venues and festivals promoting bands from the region and too.Everyone loves to see live music, regardless of age, so fingers crossed will continue to grow and Barrow will build on its reputation as a live music destination.

Although the biggest name to head to Barrow this weekend, Twin Atlantic, will be ticketed, many events will be subsidized, allowing locals to see high-quality performances at low cost or for free.

Joanne said: “We offer an eclectic program of live music and performances across the city, alongside a music industry and education conference, to inspire young people, spark aspirations and provide opportunities for growth. learn more about careers and hobbies in the creative music industry.”

As it stands, the schedule for the weekend is as follows:

Thursday September 29: Voo Doo Radio, Electric Fiction, Indigo Youth, Band in Dystopia

Friday September 30: Twin Atlantic, CHNCR, Pantasy Steel Band, Graffiti Classics, Hardwicke Cirus, Stance vs Acme Bass Company, Wendigo, Incanage, Abbey Road, Aerobees, Insular

Saturday October 1: Northern Soul and Motown Takeover at the Forum, Harp Workshop, Tea Dance, Big Fish Little Fish Family Rave, Silent Disco, Maz o’Connor and Jamie Bosanko, TNT Records present at Book Corner Horizon Studios, Prater Monks, Jay Broome , Musical Ruth and Elton Wrong, Lloyd Scott-McCullough, Barrow Musical Show

On Sunday 2nd October, Age UK’s Silver Sunday event will take place at the Forum.
